Jim Rogers Bio

Jim Rogers came into this world in 1942 in the state of Baltimore, Maryland, USA and grew up in the Demopolis, Alabama area in the USA. He has a bachelor degree in the subject of History, which was awarded to him in 1964 by the Yale University, and a second bachelor degree (BA) in Philosophy, Economics and Politics awarded by the Balliol College from the University at Oxford in early 1966. He has shown an early interest in starting and running his own business. At only 5 years old, he had already tried running his own business selling peanuts to local customers and collecting empty bottles at area baseball games.

Jim started on his career in Dominick and Dominick right after he graduated from Tale University in 1964. In 1970, he paired up with Arnhold and Bleichroder. Jim co-founded Quantum Fund in 1973, which is a series of funds with an international focus, with financial guru George Soros. The funds in Quantum Fund performed very well and out-performance S&P by a very large margin. It gained 4200% over a 10 year period, while S&P only gained about 47% during the same period. In 1980, Mr. Rogers retired from his active roles in the Quantum Fund and became a part-time professor of financial matters at the Business School at Columbia. From 1989 to 1990, he was a moderator for both “Dreyfus Roundtable” (by WCBS) and Profit Motive. In 1998, he established the Rogers Int. Commodity Index, which had great success. In late 2007, this Index and its subsidiaries were attached to exchange trading note ELEMENTS. These notes make investing in indexes accessible, as it tracks the total indices and their respective returns that they are affiliated with. In 2002, he was a regular speaker on Fox TV shows related to business as well as other financial related TV programs. In late December of 2007, he sold his beautiful home near New York, and relocated to Singapore as he feels that Asia has the greatest potential, and he would like to be at the place of action. In addition, he feels that the Chinese are very driven and motivated, and he wants his daughters to live in that environment every day so that they will be driven and motivated, as well. In February 2011, he started an equity index called Rogers Global Resources, which was a new index fund with focuses on the top and most liquid companies in certain industries and sectors such as mining, agriculture, metals, and energy (including alternative energy – solar, wind and hydro).

Today, Jim Rogers is the Chairman of Rogers Holdings and Beeland Interests, Inc. He also advises to Leopard Capital’s Sri Lanka Funding. He is currently based in Singapore, together with his family. His daughters are currently learning mandarin.
